(Updated Friday, July 23, 10:49 a.m.) A Charlotte federal judge has postponed until Nov. 8 the start of a trial in a developer’s lawsuit challenging the Town of Davidson’s development rules. Dozens of Davidson College students, faculty, staff and local residents gathered around a flagpole outside the college’s Chambers building Monday for what was billed as a “Moment of Loudness.” People came to show their support for the college’s gay and lesbian community and the campus policy of tolerance.
The rally came in response to a Nov. 4 article in Davidson’s student newspaper, The Davidsonian, by a senior student who argued that homosexuality is against the Christian tradition. In a commentary filled with citations from the Bible, he also criticized the college’s statement of diversity, saying it does not “honor God.”
