Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is growing again, instead of shrinking. The library said 69 new employees started work Monday, including 57 full- and part-time employees to help boost hours at regional libraries.
The expanded hours do not affect small branch libraries such as Cornelius and Davidson. Read the full story

David Singleton
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Board of Trustees on Wednesday appointed David Singleton as interim director of libraries, effective July 1. He’ll oversee daily library operations, and report to library CEO Vick Phillips, who will continue focusing on strategy and the future of the system, the library said.

Davidson and Cornelius branches are on the list of those that would close if county can’t come up with the extra money, Future of the Library Task Force says.
