Davidson College Presbyterian Church will host a program on Haitian earthquake relief efforts on Wednesday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Congregation House on Concord Road. Speakers will be DCPC member Dave Dudley, aviation director for Hendrick Motorsports, who has been flying aid groups in and out of Haiti. With him will be Dr. Will Conner, one of the first doctors from the Charlotte area to join the relief efforts. Read the full story

The “Davidson Cares” community service project for Haiti that was snowed out last month has been rescheduled to this Saturday, Feb. 20. The event will bring community volunteers together for worship and community service. Read the full story

Several inches of snow fell overnight in and around Davidson, forcing the cancellation of Parks & Rec programs, school activities, a Music at St. Alban’s silent film, and other Saturday events, as well as Sunday’s planned community service project at Davidson College Presbyterian Church to help earthquake victims in Haiti. The Davidson men’s basketball game will go on as scheduled.

Area musicians will play an all-day concert Saturday at Summit Coffee in downtown Davidson to help raise money for Haitian earthquake relief. Meanwhile, other groups and businesses are also planning events to raise money and awareness about the needs of Haitians following the Jan. 12 quake. Read the full story

Davidson’s religious congregations are springing into action this weekend to come up with plans for helping victims of the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti. Some are taking up collections at Sunday services. And a collection of groups are coordinating plans for a community-wide effort later this month.
Local religious leaders met Friday morning at Davidson College Presbyterian Church to consider a joint community response, and the consensus was that there’s a need for both immediate help and longer-term solutions to the quake and Haiti’s underlying economic problems. Read the full story

Tales of chaos in Haiti are mounting, and for those of us far from the disaster, the question is what to do. Clergy, community leaders and Davidson College groups are organizing a variety of efforts to raise money, supplies and awareness, and to pray.
If you’re near the Davidson campus Friday at midday, you can join a moment of silence at 12:25 p.m. around the flagpole outside the Chambers Building.
