When one of the students at Access 2 Success‘s after-school program in Benin City, Nigeria, fainted from hunger during class, the non-profit’s founder and former Davidson College basketball player Andrew Lovedale decided that the program needed to offer hot meals along with classes.
It costs just $1 for a nutritious meal in Benin, and sometimes the meal a child gets at the A2S after-school program will be the only one they get that day. To fund the hot meals program, A2S launched the first annual “Meal-a-thon” fundraiser in 2013. The second annual Meal-a-thon Nov. 25 to Dec. 31 aims to raise enough money to provide 40,000 meals to children in the after-school program during 2015.

Hundreds of food truck fans lined up on a chilly evening in downtown Davidson Wednesday in food truck rally and Summit Coffee community pint night that raised money for Davidson Lands Conservancy.
Food trucks included Comfort Food on Wheels, Cheese to the Mac, Cuzzo’s Cuisine, The Plated Palette, and Ruthies. They parked in the Jackson Street Parking lot behind Summit. The cafe donated a portion of the evening’s sales to the Conservancy.
Davidson-based singer songwriter Rusty Knox provided the tunes, from a stage behind Summit.
