Local dogs and their families enjoyed dinner outside Tuesday night at Prosciutto’s Pizzeria, Pub & Restaurant in Cornelius to benefit animal rescue. The restaurant will donate ten percent of its sales Tuesday to the North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue. Read more on our Pets page.

Volunteers from local congregations including St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and Davidson United Methodist Church will start raising money this month to help buy back-to-school shoes for needy area families.
They’ll be manning a booth Saturday, June 18, at the Davidson Farmers Market for the “Count your shoes so they can count on shoes” drive. Read the full story

Lots of excitement today on the Village Green in Davidson as the commemorative library bricks are put in place. Josh Alward of Alward Masonry in Concord and colleagues are carefully setting the bricks in the oval space just in front of the library stage.
The bricks, engraved with donors’ names, were incentives in a campaign that raised $211,000 last fall and winter to help fund library operations through June 30 of this year. Town official say the new patio will have 945 small bricks (4×8 inches ) and 91 larger (8×8 inch) bricks. Read the full story

Ex-Wildcats, including Stephen Curry and Bryant Barr, will return for April 30-May 1 dinner and 3-on-3 basketball tourney fund-raiser.
The Davidson College men’s and women’s basketball teams will host the third annual Davidson “BUZZKILL,” a 3-on-3 tournament, dinner and auction, April 30-May 1, to raise money to prevent the spread of malaria and provide health education in Africa. Read the full story

Good news on the radio this morning that no more hard freezes are expected in our area this spring. The NC Extension Service agrees that the last frost date for the Piedmont is April 15. Go Gardening! What a treat to have fresh lettuce from our backyards or the thriving Farmer’s Market each Saturday morning behind Summit Coffee.
It was also a treat to meet so many artists last Friday evening during our town’s Gallery Crawl. Today Around Davidson has a few observations about that event as well as news from Ben Wyatt and Hayden Boyd who share a commitment for clean water in Africa.
