Forestry consultants and firefighters conducted a controlled burn Thursday afternoon on 62 acres at the Barger Farm, off East Rocky River Road in Davidson.
Consultants have been waiting for the proper weather conditions for the burn, including dry weather and winds from the southwest.

A fire in Huntersville’s Cedarfield neighborhood west of I-77 left a family homeless Saturday afternoon.
Several callers to 911 around 2:14pm reported fire and heavy smoke coming from the house at 9208 Torrence Crossing Drive. The homeowner had recently returned home when he heard a noise upstairs and went to investigate, and found fire in the attic.
Firefighters from stations 1 and 2 responded within 4 minutes, according to a department news release. When they arrived they found smoke coming from the eaves and immediately brought a hose inside the house. Once on the second floor, firefighters opened the attic access door where they were immediately met with heavy smoke and fire. Read the full story
