Mooresville’s town board on Monday swore in new mayor Miles Atkins as well as new and returning commissioners who won their races in the November. The board said farewell to outgoing Mayor Chris Montgomery, who did not seek re-election, and to longtime Ward 1 Commissioner Mitch Abraham, who lost to Eddie Dingler on Nov. 8. Meanwhile, commissioner Chris Carney resigned after his appointment to fill the District 41 state representative vacancy.

Davidson Mayor John Woods was among several area mayors re-elected Tuesday, while voters in Mooresville chose a new leader – Miles Atkins – who stepped up from an at-large seat on the Mooresville board. Huntersville Mayor Jill Swain kept her job despite a challenge, while Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte ran unopposed.
The results could mean at least some continuity as the towns continue to cooperate on regional issues. They include the MI-Connection Communications System, which Davidson owns with Mooresville, and transportation issues, including I-77 widening and bringing the Red Line commuter rail to the Lake Norman area. To DavidsonNews.net:

On this election day, I’d like to thank you for your clear, fair, and comprehensive Voters’ Guide. Ever since I became eligible to vote, I have longed for a single, reliable source that would allow me to compare the candidates’ stances on various issues. You have created such a forum, and in the process, given candidates the opportunity and imperative to take a stand—to get beyond vague campaign slogans designed to appeal to everyone and instead to admit where they stand on the issues.
Thank you for setting such a high standard of journalism and providing voters such a helpful resource.
