The Town Board Tuesday approved an easement on town property around the proposed 4-story Mooney’s Corner project on South Main Street. Commissioners also adopted an ethics policy – something now required by state law – and revised the town rules governing alcohol on the Village Green. And they voted to revise an agreement with a Virginia non-profit that bought and preserved the Oakhill Apartments off Beaty Street.

If Thursday night’s forum on proposed changes at area schools showed anything, it was that Davidson IB Middle School’s students, parents, and other supporters are as passionate, supportive and close-knit as any school might hope for.
The Davidson IB crowd was the largest contingent at a community forum on school changes Thursday night at Hopewell High School, on Beatties Ford Road. They accounted for about half the 120 people at the forum, and nearly all the speakers during a public comment session.

Davidson Parks & Rec and local merchants will host the annual town Halloween march on Friday, Oct. 29. Kids and parents are invited to come in costume and stroll on Main Street collecting treats from downtown merchants.
Line up at Town Hall, march begins at 5:15 p.m.

At school board, move to halt consideration of IB school move fails
As Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools leaders continue their comprehensive review of the school system, they’re hosting another round of forums on proposals for school closings and other changes. A forum specifically focusing on north Mecklenburg schools is scheduled Thursday, Oct. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Hopewell High School, 11530 Beatties Ford Road.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library director Charles Brown cautioned during a visit to Davidson last week that maintaining the library system in its current form could be difficult given the county’s continuing budget problems. So county officials hope a newly appointed task force can come up with some long-term answers. The 17-member Future of the Library Task Force begins meeting Oct. 20.
Chairing the volunteer task force is Jim Woodward, former chancellor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Davidson Town Board member Connie Wessner has been picked to represent north Mecklenburg.

Hundreds of bicycle riders and visitors came to downtown Davidson Saturday for the Festival for Hope & Housing, the major annual fund-raiser for the Davidson Housing Coalition. The event, once known as the Ride for Hope & Housing, was expanded this year to include a Taste of Home food festival on the Village Green.

Davidson's new "popular" logo.
Local business owners are being invited to apply for grants of up to $300 each per quarter this year to help pay for advertising, in exchange for promoting Davidson using advertising templates that incorporate a new town logo. The town has a total of $5,000 this fiscal year to pay for the matching-grant program.
