Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools has decided to lease the now-vacant Davidson IB Middle School on South Street to Lake Norman Christian School. If you were out for a stroll on Main Street in downtown Davidson Sunday afternoon, you may have noticed a big change – a new look for The Soda Shop, at 104 S. Main St. Bricks on the lower half of the beloved downtown eatery sported a fresh coat of teal blue paint, replacing the former “sand” yellow.

To the editor:
I attended the wonderful Concert on the Green event Sunday night. I have enjoyed these for years, although this was my first event in 2011. This is a well attended family event and we are blessed to live in a community where parents are comfortable enough to allow their 4-5-6-7 year olds some freedom to play.

Last Friday night’s house fire in River Run was the main challenge for local firefighters over the past week. Firefighters also investigated two other possible structure fires: One in Davidson Point on Lake Davidson north of town, where a homeowner saw smoke blowing out of air-conditioning vents. The other involved a kitchen stove fire in Cornelius that was out before firefighters arrived.
On Delburg Street last Wednesday, a resident flagged down a passing fire department vehicle to report a power line was sparking after coming in contact with a tree limb. On East Rocky River Road Saturday, firefighters helped Davidson Police clear away a tree that had fallen. Details on these incidents, along with a tally of the week’s medical calls, may be found below. Read the full story

The Davidson Public Art Commission is about to start work on its second public art project, a “Book Garden” off Main Street, between the public library and the CVS pharmacy. The $100,000 project was shelved last year when state and federal grants never came through, but it’s back on track thanks to a new grant from Wells Fargo Corp. Read the full story
