Saturday, April 17, was a beautiful spring day in Davidson, and that brought lots of people downtown for all kinds of activities, from fund-raisers to shopping at the Davidson Farmers Market. DavidsonNews.net took the camera out and captured the scenes.

Davidson’s annual town-and-merchant sponsored Halloween march Friday night attracted hundreds of costumed kids for a candy-gathering stroll down Main Street. With parents and grand-parents in tow, youngsters from Davidson and beyond marched from Town Hall north on Main Street past shops and offices. As the Nov. 3 election draws closer, candidates for Davidson Town Board and the District 1 school board seat are ramping up their campaigns, with letters to voters and public appearances. The eight Town Board candidates and three District 1 school board candidates will answer questions at a public forum Thursday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Meanwhile, a group of local residents who are opposed to the town’s 2007 purchase of the local cable and internet system is hoping to raise the issue as the election approaches. They’ve been quizzing the candidates about the town’s ownership of the cable system, and posting the answers on a website called OurCableCompany.com. Read the full story

An electrical fire in a gas heater sent smoke into the upper floor of a home in the River Run neighborhood Monday evening, but ended up causing only minor damage. Read the full story

Pat Howren

Annie “Pat” Smith Howren, of Davidson, passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the Huntersville Oaks. She was 100.

A memorial service is planned Tuesday at Davidson United Methodist Church. (Details below.) Read the full story

Several car break-ins were reported over the past week, including one in the Summer’s Walk neighborhood that netted thieves more than $2,700 in electronics and sports equipment.
