After two and a half years at Davidson Elementary, Principal Terry Hall will not return after winter break, the school announced Monday night. Ms. Hall has accepted a position at Dilworth Elementary effective Jan. 2 and interim principal Ann Nivens will take over in Davidson until a replacement is found. Read the full story

Led by teachers, parents, Davidson College volleyball players, and politicians, a parade of local schoolkids participated in International Walk to School Day in Davidson on Wednesday morning.
Students from Davidson Elementary School and Community School of Davidson joined events at more than 3,500 schools nationwide, as well those in 40 countries. The day’s goal was to promote physical activity for kids, create safer routes for walking and bicycling and to build connections between families, schools and the community, according to organizers. Wednesday, Oct. 5, is International Walk to School Day, and organizers at Davidson Elementary School and Community School of Davidson are getting their schools involved in the annual event.
Also on Health & Fitness, Davidson College is hosting an evening symposium on Oct. 13 about “Integrative Medicine and Healthy Living,” with a trio of local health experts.

What a wonderful summer! It’s been hot, but we’ve had enough rain to keep everything a pleasant shade of green. Yes, it keeps us pushing lawnmowers when we would like to sit and rock on the porch, but what a pleasant change from past years when drought scorched our yards. Weeds never mind heat or drought so a group of Cub Scouts from Davidson’s Pack 58 attacked them yesterday afternoon at the Davidson Elementary School. Thanks to the volunteer moms and the energetic young boys who showed us that many hands make light work whether weeding, spraying herbicide or spreading pine straw.
Around Davidson visits today with Dianne Campbell who is heading west to live and with Tim and Terri Honeycutt who headed west for vacation with Randy and Judy Wally. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education voted at its June 28 meeting to seek a one-year waiver of the state’s new bill adding five instructional days to the school year.
