Spelling bee season is still in full swing and this week we bring news of Community School of Davidson’s first-ever bee, plus results from Friday’s CMS north bee.
Also this week we have a report on a special “partners in prevention” night at Bailey Middle that will feature a seminar for parents titled, “Speaking of Sex: How to talk with your middle and high school students.”
On the arts calendar, the musical “Grease” will be performed this weekend at Bailey Middle, with a cast of 51.
For sports fans, the basketball team at Davidson Day is getting ready to take on the nationally-ranked United Faith team from Charlotte.

The holiday season is a time when most area schools conduct food drives, several of which benefit the local food shelf at the Ada Jenkins Center. Davidson Day students made a delivery right before the Thanksgiving holiday, while Bailey Middle will be sending its collection of donations Monday, Dec. 14. School Notes this week focuses on all the school performances planned for Davidson’s annual holiday festival, “Christmas in Davidson.” We also have information on the upcoming CMS board meeting, which will include action items about the new W.A. Hough High in Cornelius. Our calendar also lists December events, including open houses and workshops on “Managing Stress for Teens and Parents” (Dec. 10 at Bailey Middle) and “Young Children and Sports” (Dec. 14 at Cannon School). Jenny Falcone
Jenny Falcone, a junior at Davidson Day School, won the N.C. Independent Schools state tennis 1A championship Sunday.
Falcone defeated Katy Cananda of Elon in straight sets of 6-0, 6-0. The tournament was held at Barton College in Wilson. Read the full story

Davidson Day School has hired Ron Johnson, a former Barry University college player and now an administrator at the University of Georgia, as boys’ basketball coach and Dean of Student Life.
