The Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center, or Davidson-Cornelius Day Care as it used to be called, has been offering quality child care for local children since the late 1960s. My two siblings and I attended for three years, and many of our friends did also. So for this PaddySmack, I interviewed a few graduates of DCCDC and asked them what they remember and their favorite parts of the school.
Since its beginning, the center has served a lot of local families. One alumna, Lauren White, just graduated from Harvard with a degree in Human Evolutionary Biology. She’s a pretty impressive person to have among the graduates of any school. It’s fantastic to think that her earliest education happened at our day care. Read the full story

Davidson Cornelius Day Care Center becomes Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center; state rating and finances begin to rebound, thanks in part to community support

On Aug. 21, 2009, Davidson Cornelius Day Care Center announced it needed to raise $64,000 in three weeks to keep its doors open through the end of that year. Now a little more than a year after that near-death experience, board members are looking to the future with cautious optimism and giving thanks for an outpouring of community support that has included donations of more than $180,000.
A fund-raising letter that went out on Monday cited some of the milestones over the past year and highlighted the center’s recent accomplishments. It also brought news that the center – on Gamble Street on Davidson’s West Side – is adopting a new name, Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center. Read the full story

Davidson’s Town Board meets Tuesday night, March 9, with a busy agenda that includes presentations on a new marketing plan for the town and the MI-Connection cable system, a graduation for Civics 101 participants, and honors for Davidson IB Middle School’s national champion Future City team. The board also is scheduled to vote on a revised master plan for a Jetton Street development, a lease renewal for the Ada Jenkins Center and a master lease for the new PiES business incubator.
