Davidson students will host their third annual community “Dinner at Davidson” this Saturday, Feb. 25, as part of a month of activities to support and raise money for The Davidson Trust – the college’s financial aid program that helps students graduate without loans.
The dinner runs 6-9 p.m. in the Lilly Family Gallery of the Chambers Building on campus. It includes a gourmet meal created by the student-run cooking club PS, as well as entertainment by student musical and poetry groups. President Carol Quillen will make remarks, along with student speakers. Read the full story

Katrin Chiemeka scored a career-high 19 points, including 13 in the final 7:21, to lead Davidson to a 61-54 women’s basketball victory over Appalachian State Saturday afternoon in front of a season-high crowd of 1,271 at Belk Arena. The win put the Cats in 1st place in the Southern Conference, just a couple of weeks ahead of the conference tournament. Story in SPORTS»
Also in Sports, a report on Saturday’s ESPN Bracketbusters game that brought Wichita State to Belk Arena to face the Wildcat men. Joe Ragland scored 30 points for the Shockers, who came way with a 91-74 win.

Davidson College’s Environmental Action Coalition hosts the 8th annual Green Ball this Friday night, Feb. 17, a night of contra dancing, fun and fundraising for Davidson Lands Conservancy

Lectures about Davidson history, tips for world travel and the 2012 French presidential election are on the schedule over the next few months at Davidson Parks & Recreation’s Davidson Senior Scholars. The series includes a program on “Memorable Moments in Davidson History” Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m., with Jan Blodgett and Ralph Levering, authors of a new Davidson history due out soon. A collection of Davidson middle and high school students gathered at Community School of Davidson High School on Armour Street Saturday for a day-long orientation to the the Davidson Service Board. Davidson College students are helping to organize the new group, which aims to develop community service projects around issues of town concern. Read the full story
