On Tuesday, Davidson firefighters responded with the Cornelius and Huntersville Fire Departments to a major structure fire in the Glenridge neighborhood in Cornelius, which Cornelius Police are calling the third case of arson in less than six months. Davidson firefighters also attempted to help the BB&T on Main Street identify a strange odor on Friday. And firefighters responded to an alarm at International Kitchen & Bath in Sadler Square that turned out to be the result of a “bug bomb.”

Investigators say arson caused a fire that destroyed an empty house on Meadow Crossing Lane in Cornelius’s Glenridge neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Nobody was hurt in the fire, which was the third suspicious fire in that neighborhood in the last six months. “This is a major crime,” said one police investigator. A bit of neighborhood teamwork helped police arrest several suspects following at least four vehicle break-ins early Tuesday in the Hobbs Hill neighborhood, off Armour Street. A neighbor called police after watching two men with flashlights attempting to open parked cars. Officers arrived quickly and chased the men into surrounding woods before catching the suspects and recovering the stolen valuables.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Davidson man is a suspect in the theft and damage of street signs in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Cornelius last weekend. MI-Connection Communications System has published a 1-page budget summary in advance of a public hearing Thursday on the proposed 2011-12 budget. The system, owned by the towns of Mooresville and Davidson, would keep operating expenses relatively flat – at $15.5 million – and reduce slightly what the the system needs from its owners, the towns of Davidson and Mooresville.
