Benjamin K. Roe has been general manager at Davidson College-based WDAV-FM since summer 2008. An award-winning producer and public radio executive, he has been working to transform the classical public radio station, even while managing through tough economic times. He recently talked to DavidsonNews.net‘s David Boraks about the station’s shift toward more locally produced programming, the growing importance of the Web, and about WDAV’s new Spanish-English program “Concierto.” He also talked about making the station a “voice and mirror” for the region, by producing programs from such regional music festivals as Spoleto, in Charleston, and Brevard in the N.C. mountains, and about gaining a national presence through the station’s first national syndication deal, “A Carolina Christmas,” airing on public stations nationwide this holiday.
