Students at W.A. Hough High School flex their visual and performing arts muscles: Jessica Hymes and Maddie Lippy have photography on display in Charlotte’s DOMA gallery, Taylor Clark dressed up the Soda Shop in Davidson for the holidays, and students audition for the spring musical beginning next week. The school also is seeking parent volunteers to judge graduation projects. Also in this column, Davidson Montessori hosts an open house Dec. 10, Cannon School offers an SAT prep course, Cannon student Rachel Harris is crowned Teen Miss Dance of North Carolina, and parents have the opportunity to learn more about the North Mecklenburg K-12 IB programs and other CMS Magnet programs. Bailey Middle School Wednesday night hosts a silent auction of student artwork and plans to donate some of the proceeds to a CMS school in need of funding assistance. Davidson IB Middle School students hosted a “Community Walk for Darfur” Saturday, raising more than $1,200 for the Save Darfur Coalition. Meanwhile, Davidson Day School students took second in a Battle of the Books, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is in the running for an urban education award. Also, Ramah Christian Classical students tend their gardens to grow food for the homeless, Duke TIP recognizes 11 Cannon School students, and Christ the King Catholic High School hosts a registration night for prospective families.
