A cheer went up outside Baker Sports Complex just before 1 p.m. Tuesday as a bus carrying Coach Bob McKillop and the Davidson College men’s basketball team arrived from Asheville. Twelve hours earlier, the Wildcats had survived a double-overtime scare against Western Carolina to win the Southern Conference tournament.
Davidson students are on spring break, but about 50 college employees, residents and other Wildcat fans showed up to welcome back their team. Someone even found a banner in the Baker attic, left over from the Cats’ 2008 NCAA tournament run, that read: “Welcome Back Cats – Thank You!” Read the full story

Davidson’s men’s basketball team beat Elon Sunday night, 83-67, to earn a spot in Monday night’s Southern Conference championship game in Asheville. The Cats will face Western Carolina, which beat UNCG in Sunday’s other semifinal. See the story IN SPORTS»
In the women’s tournament earlier Sunday, Samford used a big first half to open up a lead on the Wildcats, then held off a Wildcat surge in the second half to claim a spot in Monday’s final. The Bulldogs won 62-51, ending Davidson’s hopes for a league title. Full story in SPORTS»

Katrin Chiemeka scored a career-high 19 points, including 13 in the final 7:21, to lead Davidson to a 61-54 women’s basketball victory over Appalachian State Saturday afternoon in front of a season-high crowd of 1,271 at Belk Arena. The win put the Cats in 1st place in the Southern Conference, just a couple of weeks ahead of the conference tournament. Story in SPORTS»
Also in Sports, a report on Saturday’s ESPN Bracketbusters game that brought Wichita State to Belk Arena to face the Wildcat men. Joe Ragland scored 30 points for the Shockers, who came way with a 91-74 win.
