Forsyth, Leiser win Lake Norman YMCA triathlon

Donny Forsyth of Charlotte won the men’s race and Jennifer Leiser of Charlotte topped the women Saturday at the annual Lake Norman YMCA Triathlon. The early morning event included a 750-meter swim in Lake Cornelius, a 16.8-mile bike ride and 5k run. In SPORTS»

Independence wins, 38-33, as Huskies’ comeback falls short

Hough High School scored 21 points in a fourth-quarter comeback, but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies fell 38-33 to Independence High School in the football season opener Friday night in Cornelius. The Huskies’ trailed 17-2 at halftime, but scored 31 points in a second half spurt that included two touchdown runs by Jackson Campbell, and three touchdown passes by quarterback Josh Stilley. Ardrey Kell knocks out Hough on penalty kicks

Hough and Ardrey Kell high schools battled to a 1-1 tie through four overtimes, taking Tuesday night’s NCHSAA 4A western regional final to penalty kicks. In the end, Ardrey Kell won it on penalty kicks, advancing to Friday’s state championship game. Story in SPORTS »
