W.A. Hough High School’s baseball and soccer teams both won their NC High School Athletic Association playoff games Wednesday night, advancing closer to state championships. The girls’ soccer team, ranked No. 2 in the country, plays for the state title on Saturday, while the baseball team now is in the semifinals. U.S. Olympic runner Anthony Famiglietti ran away from the field at the Summit Coffee Leprechaun Loop 8K Saturday night, finishing nearly four minutes ahead of the second place finisher in the race along Davidson streets and greenways. Clint Mann found an opening in the lane for a dunk and Davidson’s men’s basketball team held on in the last few seconds of the second overtime to beat Western Carolina, 93-91, for the Southern Conference men’s basketball tournament championship Monday night in Asheville.
