NORMAN, Okla. – Davidson guard Stephen Curry tallied 33 points, nine assists and four steals, and the Wildcats held James Madison to 35 percent shooting from the field in a 99-64 victory in the opening round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off at the Lloyd Noble Center Monday night.

The Wildcats (2-0) will face Oklahoma at 9:30 p.m. (EST) tonight (Tuesday), and the contest will be televised live on ESPN2. Read the full story

Marist running back Bo Ehikioya rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns, and the Red Foxes held off a late-game rally by Davidson to defeat the Wildcat football team 24-19 Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium. Read the full story

Stephen Curry scored 29 points, had 10 assists and 9 steals as Davidson College beat Guilford, 107-83, at Belk Arena to open its 2008-9 basketball season. The Cats pulled away from the Quakers early in the second half and built a big lead that was never challenged.

The Cats got help from Andrew Lovedale (with 16 points, many on short shots in the lane) and Brendan McKillop, who hit a series of three pointers and finished with 14. Read the full story

Davidson College’s season opening men’s basketball game against Guilford tonight (Friday, Nov. 14) is sold out.  The game begins at 9 p.m. at Belk Arena. College officials are encouraging fans to arrive early to avoid potential traffic and parking problems. Also tonight, Davidson’s volleyball team will host the Wofford Terriers at 6 p.m., also at Belk Arena.

Gone are the days that you could waltz into Belk Arena five minutes before game time, grab a ticket, and find a great seat for a night of Davidson basketball. I arrived at the Davidson vs. Lenoir Rhyne exhibition game last night 15 minutes before game time… and was forced to park at CVS on Main Street because there were no parking spots closer to the arena.

Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham lectures Monday at the college.

This week’s calendar in Davidson includes an Election 2008 lecture at the college tonight by Newsweek editor Jon Meacham and the monthly Town Board meeting on Tuesday. Exhibit openings are scheduled at Cornelius Arts Center and Lake Norman Art League Friday and “Hamlet” opens as the lead-off production in Davidson College’s newly renovated Barber Theatre in Cunningham Theatre Center. Meanwhile, in sports, the Davidson College men’s basketball team opens its season this week, and the college hosts the Southern Conference soccer tournament semifinals and finals Friday and Sunday. San Diego running back Matt Jelmini rushed for 133 yards and defensive back Derek Pilkington had a key interception late in the game to lead the Toreros to a 28-24 Pioneer Football League victory over Davidson at Richardson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
