The Rocky River Road Club invites cyclists of all abilities to join the 11th annual Polar Bear Ride on Saturday, Jan. 10. The 50-kilometer and 100-kilometer rides begin at 10 a.m. at Bailey Middle School in Cornelius and follow routes through the north Mecklenburg and Lake Norman area. Read the full story

Davidson junior guard Stephen Curry, who is remains top scorer in the nation, has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats’ two victories last week. It’s the fourth time this season and 12th time in his career that Curry has earned the honor, which is selected by a vote of the league’s basketball sports information directors. Read the full story

Davidson College will induct four former athletes into its Athletics Hall of Fame during a ceremony Jan. 24. This year’s crop of inductees – the 20th class – is: Rusty Boyd ‘73 (golf), Erin Lang Breunig ‘94 (field hockey), Bill Jarman ‘63 (men’s basketball) and Jon Pastel ‘98 (men’s tennis). Davidson College’s women’s basketball team improved to 4-6 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Conference with an 84-66 victory over Western Carolina at home Sunday. Alex Thompson and Ashley Lax scored 20 points each to lead the Wildcats.

The Wildcats halted a three-game losing streak against Western Carolina. They have two more non-conference games left, both in Ohio. They’ll play Xavier on Friday, Dec. 19, and Cincinnati Sunday, Dec. 21. Read more about Sunday’s game on DavidsonWildcats.com.

Behind 41 points from Stephen Curry, Davidson held off a late comeback attempt by the Chattanooga Mocs to open their Southern Conference schedule with a 100-95 win Saturday night at John M. Belk Arena.

Davidson took its largest lead of the game, 92-78, with 2:21 remaining, before Chattanooga went on a 15-5 run to cut the deficit to five with 30 seconds left.

A pair of back-to-back 3-pointers by the Mocs brought the score to within two at 97-95 with 27 seconds left in the game. Curry then hit one-of-two free throws at the other end to push the Davidson lead back to three with 19 seconds on the clock. Read the full story

Stephen Curry scored 27 points and hit a key 3-point jumper with 37 seconds left to help No. 22-ranked  Davidson to a 68-65 victory over West Virginia in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York. The win lifts the Wildcats to 7-1 on the year. Read the full story

Stephen Curry scored 44 points, including a three-pointer and a pair of key free throws with four seconds left, to help 24th-ranked Davidson defeat N.C. State, 72-67, on Saturday at Time Warner Arena in Charlotte.

Andrew Lovedale had 14 ponts and Steve Rossiter added 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Wildcats improved to 6-1 on the year. Read the full story
