weekend in Davidson, but the music continues at Summit Coffee. And the Davidson Copperheads baseball team is in town again tonight with a doubleheader against the Asheville Redbirds. Kristen Meister, with Coach Raymond Brewer, stood in the high jump pit Friday afternoon with the bar at her record-setting 5 feet 11 1/4 inches.
If you pass by the Davidson College track, you’ll notice the high jump poles and bar are still in place. That’s because they are still in use. Freshman standout Kristen Meister is working out daily in preparation for next week’s NCAA Division I track championships.

Carolina clogging, a local bluegrass band, a bike rodeo, a kiddie train and a Bungee Run, will be the weekend highlight, running from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday on the green. Traditional events are also here including the cake walk, carnival games, and food. Read the full story

Davidson’s annual Town Day Road Race, which helps raise money for Davidson Cornelius Day Care Center, will draw runners from throughout the area to the Village Green on Saturday morning, May 5. The 1-mile fun run starts at 8 a.m., followed by a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) race at 8:30. Read the full story

Davidson College students may be in the midst of preparing for their finals, but they also have Virginia Tech on their minds. News of the shootings April 17 that left 33 students dead “really hit close to home here,” wrote Jon Wolf on the Davidson College website, “The event has made us feel that all campuses are one, and we want to do something to help.”
The result is “One Campus Tribute Concert,” to be held Sunday, from 2-5 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Belk dormitory. Jazz, rock and choral student groups will perform for the public, free of charge. Donations will be taken to benefit the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund at Virginia Tech.
That’s the highlight of a weekend in Davidson that will also include an AIDS benefit, piano recital, a lacrosse game and also the annual “reptile day” Saturday at the college. Read the full story

Davidson Town Day on Saturday, May 5, tops the list of May programs at Davidson Parks & Recreation. The all day festival runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with food and entertainment, a kiddie train for preschoolers, a kids’ bicycle rodeo a “bungee run” for adults. Entertainment features local bluegrass group Davidson Express, Clog Carolina, and Flex Flyer.
Other May Park & Rec activites include flower arranging, photography, ballroom dancing and sports and fitness. For details … Read the full story

Davidson’s Ada Jenkins Center focuses on giving neighbors the tools they need to improve their lives. Sunday, the center will take time to focus on its own history and the early 19th century school principal (Ada Jenkins, at right) who gave the center its name.
That’s one highlight of a busy weekend in Davidson that will include performances of the musical “Anything Goes” at Davidson College, an Autism benefit at Summit Coffee Saturday and the inaugural Concerts on the Green event. Read the full story
