Davidson College basketball star Stephen Curry, who left school a year early to enter the NBA draft, was picked seventh Thursday night by the Golden State Warriors.
But almost as soon as his number was pulled, there was speculation about a possible trade – to Phoenix.

The fourth grader who worked as a ball boy for our hometown Davidson College Wildcats showed much more graciousness and maturity than I did.
When I asked him about it, he smiled broadly and said he was happy that junior Stephen Curry was going to be drafted into the NBA.
And, me, the adult? I put on my black Wildcats shirt the day Curry
announced his eligibility for the draft, mourning his decision not to return for his senior year. I wasn’t ready to let our local hero leave home. Read the full story

Harlan Price of Independent Fabrication captured the Men’s Pro Open title at Saturday’s Cowbell Challenge Marathon mountain bike race, which brought about 130 riders to Davidson streets and trails at Fisher Farm Park, off Shearer Road. The annual event attracted hundreds of riders and others to town for what organizers said has become one of the best weekends of mountain bike racing in the Southeast.
With the heat index hovering in the 115 range, mountain bikers in the Cowbell Challenge Marathon took off from South Street at 10 a.m. Saturday, biking 6.25 miles of hard surface to get to the dirt at Fisher Farm. As they rode down South Street, residents along the route shook cowbells that were handed out in advance.
