CHARLOTTE – Anthony Famiglietti, the Davidson-based elite runner training for this summer’s Olympic trials, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Saturday’s Charlotte Invitational. Fam, as he likes to be called, was cheered on by a contingent of local fans who watched him run 8:38.15 – the fourth-fastest in the U.S. this year. Story in SPORTS»

Runner Anthony Famiglietti has his sights set on making his third U.S. Olympic team this June. As he chases that goal, he’s also reaching out to his adopted community of Davidson, both for support and to share his philosophy.
On Monday, “Fam,” as he is affectionately known, was at Davidson Elementary School, where he answered questions from second graders. They wanted to know what he eats, how many miles a day he runs, and this one: “What does it feel like to run?”
“It’s a great feeling,” he told students of teachers Dana Higgins and Tina Brock. But, he added, “It hurts.” Read the full story

U.S. Olympic runner Anthony Famiglietti ran away from the field at the Summit Coffee Leprechaun Loop 8K Saturday night, finishing nearly four minutes ahead of the second place finisher in the race along Davidson streets and greenways. Jill Rafiee of Huntersville was the top woman finisher in the race, which attracted 235 runners and raise money for Levine Children’s Hospital. Story in SPORTS»
