W.A. Hough High School’s baseball and soccer teams both won their NC High School Athletic Association playoff games Wednesday night, advancing closer to state championships. The girls’ soccer team, ranked No. 2 in the country, plays for the state title on Saturday, while the baseball team now is in the semifinals. Fifteen-year-old Jason Huber of Huntersville won the Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center 5K run in downtown Davidson. He clocked 18:10, four seconds ahead of Robert Mayo, 23, of Charlotte. In third place overall was Malia Ellington of Cornelius, the top woman finisher, in 18:45. See SPORTS»

Fourteen-year-old high school freshman Malia Ellington of Cornelius went out with a pack of runners and then pulled away to win the Town Day Spartan 5K road race on the Davidson greenway and streets Saturday. The event kicked off a day of fun and music on Town Day 2012 in downtown Davidson.
