Davidson resident Jake Johnson runs around a backyard, alternately dousing others with his squirt gun and getting soaked by enemy fire. He’s just like any other young boy, screaming, laughing, having fun with friends. There’s just one difference.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education will host a forum tonight (Tuesday) in the University City area and again on July 29 in Matthews to gather ideas and input from the community about the future of local schools.

The forums are part of a second phase of the board’s “comprehensive review” that began in June.  Called “The Case for Continuous Improvement: A Comprehensive Review of CMS,” the review aims to refine the guiding principles that are used to set policy in areas including transportation, student assignment, magnet lottery and other district operations.

Happy Fourth of July to all our readers.  Hope the wonderful weather forecast makes all your outdoor activities successful this weekend.  Although Davidson’s celebration is scaled down again this year, compared to previous years, we’ll still have the 5:45 p.m. parade on Saturday, July 3, from Town Hall to the Village Green.  That’s followed by a 6 p.m. concert on The Green by Da Throwback Band. Get out your red, white and blue for the festive occasion.
