Budget woes and the weak financial markets have led county officials to hold off issuing more than $250 million in bonds this year, and that means a delay in the start of the proposed $7 million Davidson Community Center and Davidson IB Middle School renovation project.

Town and school district officials told DavidsonNews.net Wednesday the project will be delayed “at least a year” until the economy and bond markets improve. Read the full story

A new public high school along Bailey Road in Cornelius is scheduled to open in the fall of 2010.

Construction is well underway on Bailey Road in Cornelius for a new public high school  scheduled to open in fall 2010.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will hold a workshop on proposed boundaries for the new school on Thursday, March 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at North Mecklenburg High in Huntersville.  See below for how the different options will impact the size and demographics of not only the proposed Bailey Road high school, but also North Mecklenburg High and Hopewell High.

Having lost two grandparents to cancer made Woodlawn School sophomore Sawyer Bowman think hard about how funding is allocated for cancer research, and his resulting video documentary on the subject has just earned a national award. Meanwhile, his classmate Stephan Snyder has spelled his way to a state bee.

Davidson-Concord Road opens; symposium goes on

Life began returning to normal for Davidson residents Tuesday morning as streets reopened, kids returned to school and work and meetings resumed.

Davidson-Concord Road reopened overnight near the River Run neighborhood after being closed for day because of a downed tree and power lines blocking across the road. Read the full story

Residents woke up this morning to a blanket of snow that was worthy of photographs, but also brought problems.

Power was out in the McConnell neighborhood, along Concord and Pine roads, in the River Run neighborhood, and in scattered parts of town. Many outages were the result of limbs that collapsed under the weight of wet snow.

At around 9 a.m., a large tree limb fell across South Main Street near the Davidson United Methodist Church. Read the full story
