Two 18-year-old men from Cornelius and Huntersville are facing a variety of charges this week after they were arrested in Davidson Friday night in an incident that began when police received a complaint about a suspicious car on Ashby Drive in the McConnell neighborhood. Meanwhile, a Davidson police officer who was punched in the nose after he confronted the men was treated and released at a hospital and is expected to be back at work this week. Read the full story

Davidson police captured a teenaged drug suspect Friday night after a manhunt in and around the McConnell neighborhood. A second teen also was in custody and a Davidson police officer was being treated at the hospital after being punched in the face in an incident around 6 p.m. on Ashby Drive.

Deer continue to be a problem for drivers on Davidson Streets, even in the old part of town. Three deer-related accidents were reported this week, one Thursday morning on Potts Street and two others last Saturday on N.C. 73 near the Cabarrus line. After almost 2 months in jail, the primary suspect in a series of arson fires in Cornelius over the past year was freed Monday after the Mecklenburg District Attorney dropped the charges against him. Robert Joseph Prevatte, 31, was arrested Sept. 16 as police investigated a series of arson fires in the Glenridge neighborhood. Police say he may be moving to Davidson.

Police are investigating a reported theft at the Ingersoll Rand complex off Beaty Street, in which an employee allegedly stole and resold about $850 worth of scrap metal. Meanwhile, a burglar took a handgun during a break-in on O Henry Avenue in the St. Alban’s neighborhood Saturday. And unknown suspects damaged two windows at the Davidson IB Middle School on South Street. A 67-year-old Davidson College professor was in the hospital with critical injuries Friday morning after he was struck by a car in a crosswalk on Concord Road Thursday night. Robert Whitton, a longtime visiting mathematics professor, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was being treated for head injuries. Read the full story

A Dembridge Drive resident told police this week that an unknown suspect stole his golf equipment valued at $5,500 from the River Run Golf & Country Club this week.
In addition, a Cornelius woman was charged with DWI after running her 2004 Toyota into a parked, unoccupied 2007 Mercedes-Benz SUV on Harbour Place Drive at approximately 30 mph. Read the full story
