Police are investigating the theft of a woman’s Chevrolet Aveo that was left unoccupied on I-77  the day before Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, two more local drivers had violent encounters with  deer over the past two weeks. A woman was hurt in a Nov. 17 accident in which a deer ran into her car on Potts Street, while a man’s 1998 Ford was damaged the following day on NC 115/South Main Street near the Twin Oaks neighborhood.

Davidson firefighters assisted other departments with several auto accidents last week, including one SUV rollover on I-77 between Exits 30 and Exit 31.  Meanwhile, two people were taken to a hospital Nov. 18 for injuries sustained in a an accident on Davidson-Concord Road.  A malfunctioning propane tank and a possible gas leak inside of a residence prompted emergency responses, as well. Firefighters assisted a homeowner with a propane tank that would not flow properly, and the gas leak was determined to be coming from an outside pipeline’s relief valve. False alarms on the Davidson College campus rounded out the fire calls.

A 17-year-old told police he was robbed at gunpoint by two men he knows Sunday night behind Summit Coffee in downtown Davidson.  Meanwhile, police are investigating several reports of vehicle break-ins at the parking lot of 209 Delburg St., The Davidson Cotton Mill, on Saturday and Tuesday. Firefighters assisted police with a number of vehicle accidents over the past two weeks, including two incidents involving deer and one versus a parked car on Concord Road. Kitchen fires and the cross-town power outage on Nov. 14 (“Power outage hits Cornelius & Davidson; 3 schools closed”) kept emergency responders on the road, as did a number of false alarms resulting from construction projects on the Davidson College campus. Two 18-year-old men from Cornelius and Huntersville are facing a variety of charges this week after they were arrested in Davidson Friday night in an incident that began when police received a complaint about a suspicious car on Ashby Drive in the McConnell neighborhood. Meanwhile, a Davidson police officer who was punched in the nose after he confronted the men was treated and released at a hospital and is expected to be back at work this week. Read the full story

CONCORD – As Erin Cobb continues her recovery after being shot by her ex-husband at her Davidson home in September, she and her family say her good fitness has been a major advantage. A 28-year-old banker who served a tour with the U.S. Marines in Iraq, Ms. Cobb was a regular practitioner of CrossFit – short, intense group workouts focusing on strength and cardiovascular conditioning.

Davidson police captured a teenaged drug suspect Friday night after a manhunt in and around the McConnell neighborhood. A second teen also was in custody and a Davidson police officer was being treated at the hospital after being punched in the face in an incident around 6 p.m. on Ashby Drive.

Deer continue to be a problem for drivers on Davidson Streets, even in the old part of town. Three deer-related accidents were reported this week, one Thursday morning on Potts Street and two others last Saturday on N.C. 73 near the Cabarrus line.
