Police responded to two break-ins at buildings owned by Davidson United Methodist Church on South and Walnut streets March 21.  On Thursday, someone tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at the Rushco Market, off I-77 Exit 30, while another suspect was issued a citation Sunday after he was accused of stealing a beer from the Rushco. The Mecklenburg County Commission on Tuesday approved the creation of new Fire Protection Service Districts and a new fire service tax on property in the county’s unincorporated areas. The new tax will take effect July 1 and is expected to range from about 4.5 to 7 cents per $100 of assessed value. Read the full story

Firefighters over the past week investigated several natural gas emergencies. Emergency personnel helped PSNC Energy technicians clamp off a ruptured natural gas line on Walnut Street last Friday and investigated an odor of natural gas on St. Alban’s Lane Tuesday. On Thursday, Davidson units provided standby coverage for Cornelius firefighters while they responded to another gas leak, in the Heritage Green neighborhood. On Tuesday, one patient was take to the hospital after a two vehicle collision on I-77 north of Davidson, and steam from a shower triggered a smoke alarm in Davidson College’s Tomlinson Dormitory. An 18-year-old Davidson teen missing since Wednesday evening has been found safe, Davidson police said Thursday afternoon. Joshua Kogas was being treated at Huntersville Presbyterian Hospital, police said around 5 p.m. Read the full story

Davidson Police are asking for help finding an 18-year-old man who disappeared in east Davidson Wednesday night after telling a 911 dispatcher he had intentionally overdosed on his medication.

Joshua Wilton Kogas called 911 around 8:30 p.m., saying he had intentionally overdosed on his medication and was laying in the wooded area near Mayes Road and N.C. 73. Davidson Police and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department began a search of the area with officers, dogs and a helicopter, but were unable to find Mr. Kogas Wednesday night.

In a statement Thursday morning, police said Mr. Kogas has been seeing a doctor  for unspecified medical conditions that require medication. “At this time, it is unclear if he has his medications with him,” the statement said.

Mr. Kogas is white, six feet tall, 180 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen Wednesday night near Page’s Pond Court and N.C. 73 wearing blue jeans, black tee shirt and an orange or red backpack.
