The Davidson police and the Mecklenburg County fire marshal are investigating a series of small fires that were intentionally set Wednesday near homes at Davidson Landing, on Lake Norman and off I-77 Exit 30. Investigators are seeking help finding a woman who was seen near the locations of the fires that day.

Five of the seven fire calls handled over the past week by Davidson Fire Department were alarms on the Davidson College campus. Incidents ranged from a fire in a trash can outside Cannon dorm one evening to alarms set off by steam from a shower and smoke from a microwave oven. Also below, the week’s medical call statistics.

Sirens located around McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested Wednesday, Oct. 13, at approximately 11:50 a.m. No public action is required during this three-minute test.

Smoke from a rooftop heating unit on the roof brought Davidson and Cornelius firefighters to the Oak Street Mill in downtown Cornelius Tuesday morning. Twelve hours later, firefighters were checking on a brush fire behind a home in River Run. The past week’s fire calls also included a couple of cooking fires and two false alarms at Davidson College dormitories where steam from showers had set off alarms. Updated 10:07 a.m.Davidson Police are seeking information about a red truck parked in the driveway of one of several homes hit in during series of daytime burglaries Monday in the McConnell and Hudson Place neighborhoods. Nearly $20,000 in electronics and jewelry was taken. Meanwhile, police also are investigating the theft of $6,000 in cable networking equipment from a Time Warner Cable outdoor box on Summers Walk Boulevard early Saturday. Davidson and Cornelius fire units were called to a home at 17124 Piermont St. in the River Run neighborhood Tuesday night around 8:50 p.m. for a report of an outdoor fire.

Davidson police are investigating at least three reports of daytime burglaries on Monday at homes in neighborhoods off Concord Road. Two homes were on Ashby Drive in the McConnell neighborhood and one on Hudson Place.
