Officers received a variety of theft reports this week. Two adolescent males were caught breaking into Davidson Elementary School on Saturday evening, and a woman reported that her wallet had been stolen while she shopped on Main Street. Other reported thefts included a piece of jewelry valued at $600 that was stolen from a victim at Davidson Day School and a bicycle taken from Lakeview Drive. Firefighters responded to a number of fire alarm activations over the past week, as well as two calls to the Davidson College campus where passersby incorrectly reported seeing smoke. Meanwhile, a guest at Homewood Suites raised concerns among hotel staff when they smelled something burning in his room. Upon investigating, firefighters found that the burning smell was coming from the guest’s microwave, in which he was attempting to dry a shirt.
