Cars overturned in separate wrecks on Shearer Road over the past two weeks, sending passengers to the hospital. Davidson Fire Department units responded to the wrecks, as well as numerous fire alarm activations. A former local charter school administrator was arrested this week and charged with indecent liberties with a child, though police and school officials say the charge is unrelated to his work at the local charter school.
Kevin Green, 45, of Cornelius, was arrested by Cornelius Police on Tuesday, June 11 on a warrant charging him with a single count of indecent liberties with a child, a felony. He was released on $25,000 bond, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department records.
Green’s attorney said later Friday that he denies the charge. He says he is innocent.

Thunderstorms that blew through the Lake Norman area on Thursday afternoon knocked down limbs and power lines, produced hail in parts of Charlotte and lighting strikes, including one reported at a car dealership in Huntersville. A car fell on a tree on Hambright Road, and a house burned in Huntresville’
But areas to our northeast, especially Winston-Salem and Greensboro, were even harder hit. Read the full story

Davidson Police responded to two wrecks on Shearer Road last weekend that sent occupants of the vehicles to area hospitals for treatment. In one incident in which a 2003 Ford rolled over, the driver was found to be driving while intoxicated. Meanwhile, someone stole equipment from a sailboat at Davidson Landing. Local officials in the Lake Norman area and around the country are trying to educate drivers about the risks of distracted driving, especially texting or talking while driving. Glancing at your mobile phone for just a few seconds at 55 miles per hour is the equivalent of driving the length of a football field while blindfolded, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Distraction.gov website. In a recent survey of Davidson residents, pedestrians and cyclists identified distracted driving as the biggest safety risk they face.
Distracted driving has become a such a significant public safety concern that 39 states have now outlawed texting while driving. Ten states and the District of Columbia have also banned the handheld use of mobile phones for calls while driving. Read the full story

Rescuers on Tuesday afternoon recovered the body of a 19-year-old Harrisburg man from the waters of Carrigan Quarry in Mooresville. An Iredell County Sheriff’s detective told DavidsonNews.net the man drowned while swimming around 11:30am. Read the full story
