Nine town commissioners from Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson have sent a letter to state officials seeking postponement of the NC Department of Transportation’s planned signing of a preliminary deal by month’s end to widen I-77 using toll lanes. The request follows the DOT’s release of information about potentially high rates in the planned toll lanes.
The elected officials – four from Cornelius and three from Huntersville and two from Davidson – are calling on the DOT to delay signing the preliminary contract with Spanish construction firm Cintra Infraestructures – the only company to submit a final bid on the project.

State Sen. Jeff Tarte (R-Cornelius) will host a Town Hall meeting with constituents in Huntersville this Friday, June 20. Tarte will discuss pending legislation and other issues in the district.
The open meeting runs 7 to 8:30pm at Huntersville Town Hall, 101 Huntersville-Concord Road. It’s the second of two in the district this month. Tarte also was in Matthews last Friday, June 13. Read the full story

Cornelius Commissioner John Bradford easily captured the Republican nomination for the N.C. General Assembly’s 98th District seat Tuesday, and immediately looked ahead to the November election. After a campaign in which his Republican opponents attacked his stance on income taxes and highway tolls, among other things, he said he’s hoping for a cleaner campaign this fall in the general election against Democrat Natasha Marcus.
