Davidson College invites the public to a series of events on Monday, Jan. 19, to commemorate Martin Luther King Day. The schedule includes activities for children, performances, and talks and seminars focused on social justice. The keynote speakers will be Rev. Charles White, national field director for Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, and journalist and television personality Marc Lamont Hill. The full schedule is listed below. WASHINGTON, DC — The meeting chamber of the United States Senate Gallery began to fill up at about 11:45am Tuesday as spectators took their seats above the meeting floor and senators new and old gathered on the floor.

It was a moment two years in the making, if not longer than that, for Huntersville’s Thom Tillis. His swearing-in as a US Senator was the latest step in a skyrocketing political career that has taken him him from Cornelius town commissioner to the state House of Representatives and Speaker of the House to the US Senate in only 10 years. The die-in Davidson students staged on Main Street during Christmas in Davidson last weekend polarized area residents. Some accused students of disrupting a beloved town tradition while others supported the protest.
