Edging out Huntersville business owner John Aneralla by just about 200 votes, according to unofficial results, Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte won the second primary election July 17 and will represent District 41 in the N.C Senate. Tuesday’s runoff vote between the two came after a close finish in the primary May 8 – and again, the men finished neck and neck, with less than three percent of the vote separating them. In a pair of 5-0 votes Tuesday, Davidson’s Town Board approved an $8.9 million general fund budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 and endorsed a five-year tax-refund package for MSC Industrial Direct Co., which last week announced plans to bring up to 400 jobs to a new “co-headquarters” in Davidson. The board also met in closed session, and ended up putting off a vote on an undisclosed “settlement agreement” that had been on the agenda. Read the full story
