The Davidson Public Art Commission is about to start work on its second public art project, a “Book Garden” off Main Street, between the public library and the CVS pharmacy. The $100,000 project was shelved last year when state and federal grants never came through, but it’s back on track thanks to a new grant from Wells Fargo Corp. Read the full story

A revised conceptual plan for the 180-acre Davidson East site off N.C. 73 east of town could wind up looking a lot like what’s been proposed previously, with some improvements. That was the outcome of a 2-day public planning workshop at Town Hall that wrapped up Tuesday afternoon and gathered ideas from Davidson planners, property owners and residents.

The Rusher family of Salisbury has been running a fuel distribution business since 1938 and convenience stores since 1982, but there’s something quite different about the Rushco Davidson Market that opened this week.
Bob Rusher Jr. describes the business not as a typical convenience store, but as an “urban market.” The site includes the food market, offices, and gasoline pumps under a canopy. Inspection delays are holding off the opening of the Rushco Davidson Market off I-77 Exit 30, but one of the developers said Wednesday he thinks the market and gas station could be open within 7 to 10 days. Meanwhile, the owners are seeking tenants for the shop’s second-floor office space.
“We’re on the verge of getting open,” said Bobby Rusher, of developer Rusher Oil Co. in Salisbury. Mr. Rusher said the new market has been held up awaiting final inspections. He said Wednesday that workers will start stocking the store next week and the shop could be open as early as the end of next week, around June 24. Read the full story
