Did you know DavidsonNews.net is a locally-owned small business? Just like the shops and restaurants on Main Street, we need your support to stay in business.
Over the past year, our readership has grown an astounding 25 percent, stretching from Davidson to Charlotte to Mooresville. But our supporters have diminished.
Help keep DavidsonNews.net sustainable by becoming a voluntary paying subscriber today. Some of our readers are now choosing to make monthly payments, as with the other publications they subscribe to. You can do that by setting up recurring payments with your bank, or by using our online payment system. http://davidsonnews.net/support-us/ If you have questions about supporting us or you’d like to chat, email me at editor@davidsonnews.net.
ADVERTISE WITH US
Meanwhile, if you’re a local business, chances are I, my family, our staff and our readers are right in your sweet spot. Please consider supporting us and giving your own business a shot in the arm by becoming an advertiser on this local-owned and operated website. We reach your customers, and the money you spend with us pays local salaries and winds up back in the community.
We’ll be rolling out a new advertising program soon that will transform our offering – making it easier and more affordable to reach your most likely customers. To find out more, visit davidsonnews.net/advertise or contact Lyndsay, ads@davidsonnews.net.

Jocelyn Albright Desmond
Jocelyn Albright Desmond left us a couple of weeks ago, and our community is still mourning along with her family over the loss of such a bright and engaged fellow citizen. We’re looking for meaning as we try to fathom the news that the W.A. Hough High School teen took her own life. Many of us are hugging our own children a little closer and wondering how to talk to them about her death.
On Friday, Jocelyn’s family issued a message of thanks for the outpouring of support from friends, their church and their children’s schools. As they mourn, family members also say they are encouraged by signs that people here – especially other teens – are learning something from the tragedy. Read the full story

DavidsonNews.net subscribers, readers and friends:
It’s hard to believe, but it has been 5 years since DavidsonNews.net started as a pioneer of community news publishing on the Internet. To celebrate, we’re throwing a reception next Friday, Nov. 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brickhouse Tavern on Delburg Street. It’s a drop-in, with hors d’oeuvres and cash bar – and we hope you’ll join us. But wait, there’s more … Read the full story

As you may have noticed, we had a pretty bad Halloween here. Problems at our out-of-state Internet hosting service had our sites crashing and rebounding all day Monday. Our tech guy in Virginia has us back up this morning, but DavidsonNews.net and CorneliusNews.net lost what we posted Sunday and Monday. We’re working to restore. Sorry for the trouble.

DavidsonNews.net is in the business of reporting the news, not making it. However, when information about us is circulating in town, we need to address it to make sure our readers have accurate information. We’re talking about a copy of an email by mayoral candidate Vince Winegardner that’s making the rounds in town right now.
On Oct. 10, Mr. Winegardner accused Davidsonnews.net and one of its commenters of making libelous statements about him on the site. He warned that if we did not remove the information from the site, he might initiate legal action against us. Read the full story

The war of words that swirls unceasingly around Mooresville’s and Davidson’s ownership of the local cable network, MI-Connection Communications System, took another twist Friday when one of the system’s longtime critics admitted he actually works for competitor Time Warner Cable.
Andy Stevens of Troutman has spoken out against the towns’ 2007 cable purchase, posted comments on this and other local websites and started an anti-MI-Connection blog. He has described himself as a concerned citizen and an opponent of government ownership of government involvement in telecommunications. When reporters and local officials have questioned him about his employment, he has repeatedly denied working for the company. Read the full story
