More than 60 students and community members gathered on the Davidson College campus this weekend for the 2011 Women’s Leadership Conference, a series of speeches and breakout sessions promoting inter-generational dialogue among local women. The event included a keynote speech Friday night by film producer and 1987 Davidson grad Laeta Kalogridis as well as Saturday sessions on various topics.

On Town Day, May 7, Davidson’s library task force will unveil a new patio built with bricks honoring the hundreds of local residents who donated to the task force’s fund-raising campaign this past winter. Meanwhile, Town Day also will be the venue for the library’s annual fund-raising book sale, and organizers are seeking donations of books and media for the sale.

The new Rotary Club of Davidson celebrated its Charter Event on Thursday, March 3, in the Lilly Gallery on the campus of Davidson College.
Nearly 100 Rotarians and guests were in attendance to celebrate this momentous occasion. Club President Natisha Rivera-Patrick welcomed the group, speaking about the “power of one and how collectively as Rotarians we can make an impact locally and abroad.” Read the full story

Local nonprofit group Angels of ’97 has added a new item to its annual spaghetti dinner menu: a 5K run.
The group, founded in memory of North Meck will host its 15th dinner and the inaugural 5K run on Saturday, March, 19. Also planned is a shorter “Fun Run” for children and families, around the North Mecklenburg High School track.
Five students from the North Mecklenburg High School class of 1997 died during their high school years, prompting community members Charles Guignard, Jane Bolton and Sherry Harkey to found the 501(c)3 nonprofit in their memory. The group raises funds to support area high school students as they pursue higher education. Read the full story
