Second of two columns on traffic laws
Speeding is the most common traffic violation. During North Carolina’s “No Need 2 Speed” campaign in March, more than 14,500 speeding citations were issued in one week. That suggests a need for a quick refresher on North Carolina speeding laws.
Obviously, drivers are required to comply with posted speed limits. Where there is no posted speed limit, the following limits apply: (1) 35 miles per hour inside municipal boundaries and (2) 55 miles per hour outside municipal boundaries. Local governments have authority to set speed limits within their jurisdictions, but the state retains control over speed limits on all roads in the state highway system. Read the full story
