Davidson’s Town Board will hold an all-day “mini-retreat” in Statesville on Friday to discuss priorities for a revised Capital Improvement Plan. The plan, or CIP, is a road map for future major projects in town, from roads and sidewalks to parks and new buildings. Meanwhile, Davidson and Cornelius are continuing to look at their options for responding to a public records request for citizens’ email addresses.

Benjamin Roe was on the road last week, driving through 15 states and covering more than 2,300 miles, “with nary a scratch,” he says.
On I-85, about 10 minutes from home in Concord, a rock flew out of the back of an uncovered truck in front of him and smashed his windshield. He wasn’t hurt, and got this cool photo as a souvenir.

With some downtown Charlotte businesses planning to send workers home early, Charlotte Area Transit System has added earlier-than-usual outbound trips to its schedules for riders of express buses. The earlier departures, which begin at 2 p.m., will include the 77x North Meck Express. Riders on the 48x Huntersville Express should also take the early 77x. About 325 cyclists braved the cold and a surprise mid-route snowstorm Saturday in the 13th annual Polar Bear Ride on the roads of north Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.
The annual ride, organized by the Rocky River Road Club, started and finished at Ingersoll Rand, off Beaty Street in Davidson. Some riders chose a 50k ride, while others rode a metric century – 100 kilometers, or 62 miles.

One of the Lake Norman area’s winter traditions returns this month, bringing hundreds of bicyclists to Davidson. The 13th annual Polar Bear Ride, sponsored by Rocky River Road Club, is scheduled this Saturday, Jan. 8, with 50- and 100-kilometer bicycle rides through the north Mecklenburg/Lake Norman area. Construction is nearly complete on the 1.1-mile West Branch Rocky River Greenway, which snakes through the River Run neighborhood and along the river east of downtown Davidson.
