Update 11 a.m.
A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer shot his ex-wife and himself early Saturday at a home east Davidson’s Runnymede neighborhood. The two people are in serious condition at Carolinas Medical Center. And Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are investigating the case, which they say involved a family dispute.
The incident happened just after 2 a.m. at 19701 Callaway Hills Lane, off Shearers Road in east Davidson. Davidson police also responded to the incident. CMPD is leading the investigation because the neighborhood is outside Davidson’s town limits.
Just after 9 a.m., CMPD identified the victim as Erin Marie Cobb, 28. The man was identified as Jeremy A. Hester, 31, a former Metro Division officer with the police department. He was hired on May 14, 2007, and resigned March 20, 2010 “to pursue other employment,” CMPD said.
Ms. Cobb was hospitalized in stable/critical condition this morning, after surgery.
Mr. Hester was hospitalized in critical condition.
Here’s more information from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department early this morning, and an update after 9 a.m.: Read the full story

Police investigated another string of larcenies from parked cars this week, this time on Scanlan Way and Winged Thistle Court. Two vehicles parked on Scanlan Way were damaged while a thief stole wallets and credit cards from inside, and a woman reported that her car appeared to have been rifled through upon investigating a noise her daughter heard in the garage.
In addition to the vehicle larcenies, officers are investigating a case of debit card fraud involving a bank and two reports of vandalism to personal vehicles. A Cornelius man was arrested for DWI and other charges after hitting a street sign and a vehicle traveling in the opposing lane of traffic, as well.
Details on these incidents and others (along with a tally of the week’s arrests, citations, and traffic enforcement) may be found below. Read the full story
