Town officials on Friday confirmed rumors that the town’s public information officer is gone from her Town Hall job. Megan Pillow Davis, who had held the job since August 2010, was at work Friday morning but gone by the end of the day. No further information was immediately available.

Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte and Huntersville business owner John Aneralla finished neck and neck in the race for the 41st District state Senate seat, but neither got the 40 percent needed to avoid a runoff.

Voters across North Carolina on Tuesday easily approved a constitutional amendment defining male-female marriages as the only “domestic legal union” allowed in the state. Meanwhile, the Republican race for the 9th Congressional District appeared headed for a July runoff as well, with no candidates topping 40 percent. After nearly 2 hours of discussion, Mecklenburg County Commissioners Tuesday night voted to call for an independent review of the county’s 2011 property revaluation, to answer citizens’ questions and concerns about the assessment and appeals processes.
Commissioner Karen Bentley, who represents District 1, asked the board to direct the county manager to identify and recommend an independent reviewer, the scope of work, and budget for the review. She also asked the board to allocate funding for the review out of the county’s contingency fund, and proposed setting the date for the next revaluation at Jan. 1, 2014. Read the full story
