Rachel Keener
A pair of book related events are scheduled in Davidson Tuesday night. North Carolina author Rachel Keener will be at Davidson public library branch at 7 p.m. Tuesday to read and discuss her first novel,“The Killing Tree.”
Across the street at Main Street Books, the Main Street Readers monthly book club will discuss “The Help” by Kathryn Stockwell.

Davidson inaugurated new Mayor John Woods and a new Town Board Tuesday night in a Town Hall ceremony that included tearful send-offs to retiring Mayor Randy Kincaid and commissioners Bruce McMillen and Cary Johnston. In his farewell, Mayor Kincaid offered his own David Letterman-style “Top Ten List” of things he’ll miss about being Mayor of Davidson. Read the full story

The Town Board will have a limited agenda at its monthly meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m., where the main business will be to welcome newly elected members and honor those retiring. North Mecklenburg voters came
out strongly in support of keeping the county’s 1/2-cent sales tax for transit and in favor of the $516 million in school bonds, signaling support for efforts to deal with growth in the region. The school bond vote will have an immediate effect on North Meck, providing a new high school in Cornelius and renovations at Davidson IB Middle School. And transit supporters say the transit vote bodes well for the north commuter rail project.

Davidson voters elected John
Woods (photo) as mayor Tuesday, giving him 1,521 votes or 67 percent of the vote with
all the ballots counted, according unofficial results from the Mecklenburg Board of Elections. William E. Jackson Jr. received 733 votes or 32 percent.
In the Board of Commissioners race, incumbents Margo Williams and Evan Webster both were re-elected. Also earning seats were political newcomers Laurie Venzon, Brian Jenest and Bill Johnson. About 40 percent of Davidson’s registered voters cast ballots. (Turnout figure corrected Nov. 9 on new information from the Board of Elections – the editor). Read the full story
