Davidson’s Town Board holds its monthly work session tonight, where commissioners are expected to review on a conditional rezoning request for signage at Rushco Davidson Market, off I-77 Exit 30. The board also will hear a presentation from economic development manager Kris Krider and Downtown Director Sandy Lemons on a proposed downtown/economic development work plan.

Fifth Third Bank has put up for sale 104 acres at I-77 and Westmoreland Road in Cornelius that once was slated to become a massive mixed-use development called Augustalee. The Charlotte Business Journal reports that Fifth Third completed its foreclosure on the property in August and has hired Piedmont Land Sales and CB Richard Ellis to market the site, possibly for offices.

The Davidson Design Review Board meets Wednesday night with an agenda that includes a review of the design for the proposed Mooney’s Corner, a 4-story commercial building in the town’s historic district on South Main Street, next to Town Hall. The board also will consider design and signage for an Aquesta Bank ATM at Knox Realty, on Main Street and a proposal by developers of Davidson Bay Phase 2, off Beaty Street, to replace three garages with offices. Town officials, residents and local cyclists will take a bicycle ride through town on Saturday, Sept. 25, to promote bicycle safety, an issue much in the news recently because of collisions between vehicles and bicycles. The 10 a.m. ride will cover about 3 miles of Davidson’s South Prong Greenway as well as town streets, and coincides with the official marking of the greenway as part of the Carolina Thread Trail.

Davidson’s Town Board on Tuesday endorsed a proposal for high-occupancy toll lanes on I-77, which could help ease congestion and provide money to widen the highway between north Charlotte and Cornelius. The board also approved historic landmark status for a modernist house on Lorimer Road and a Jim Crow-era store on the West Side. And the meeting saw a rare 3-2 split vote on final item of the night – a Davidson Lands Conservancy request to allow a “beer garden” on the Village Green after this Saturday’s Run for Green road races.
