It has been more than a year since work began on replacing the aging boardwalk at Roosevelt Wilson Park, but aside from demolishing the previous boardwalk there has been little progress on installing the replacement. Town Commissioners on Tuesday voted to request that the NCDOT lower the speed limit on stretches of Davidson-Concord Road from 55 mph to 45 mph, and from 45 mph to 35 mph. They also passed a resolution to request that the proposed access point to the High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes on I-77 be moved further north, between the Westmoreland Road overpass and Exit 28.

A 19-year-old driving a Jeep tried to put on his shoes while driving down Dembridge Drive this morning, only to veer into a tree and flip his car near Green Knoll Trace. He was taken from the scene in an ambulance, but no one else was hurt. Read the full story

The Town Board will meet at 6pm Tuesday to discuss Davidson College’s plans to construct a three megawatt solar farm off Grey Road, near Davis Road. Commissioners will consider a resolution asking the Department of Transportation to reduce the speed limit on Davidson-Concord Road from 55 and 45 mph to 35 mph.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of  an exception to the local noise ordinance that would allow workers at 2 Harbor Place to begin work there between 4 and 5am.

Commissioners will have a “pre-meeting” starting at 4pm, during which they will discuss economic development incentives.

It’s the sort of vandalism your grandmother would approve of: Armed with knitting needles and yarn instead of spray-paint, an unknown artist has knitted a cover for the stop sign behind the Davidson Post Office, off Jackson Street. The yarn transforms the stop sign into a flower, complete with stem and leaves, and has been up for almost a month now. Read the full story
