The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has announced changes in its campus sexual misconduct policy, as debate continues nationwide about how colleges should investigate assault and discipline those found responsible. From Sept. 1-7, the River Run golf course will find itself in the spotlight as host of the second annual Chiquita Classic, one of the last four major tournaments in the Web.com tour. World-class golfers will converge on the River Run links next week to compete for a $1 million purse and a spot on next year’s PGA Tour.  Read the full story

For the 75th time, Davidson College freshmen carried on a school tradition Tuesday afternoon by running around campus in the annual Freshman Cake Race. Their prizes? Cake, of course!

Continuing a tradition started in 1934, around 150 members of the Davidson College class of 2018 ran a 1.3 mile circuit around campus Tuesday afternoon chasing a chance to win cakes baked by local residents. Read the full story

Davidson is ahead of the national average for “passive parkland” – green space without paths or trails – but it lags behind when it comes to “active parkland.”  The current draft of the town’s proposed Parks & Recreation Master Plan seeks to address the issue, officials said Tuesday night.  Also on the agenda at a Town Board work session were changes to the town’s noise ordinance, as well as changes to the minimum housing code that would make it easier  to demolish abandoned buildings. Flags of all stripes may soon adorn the windows of dormitories at Davidson College – provided the occupants fill out the required paperwork. On Tuesday, Davidson College officials announced a change to school policies that will allow students to hang flags approved by the school’s Residence Life Office.
