Handwritten scoreboards, long a traditional part of golf tournaments, have become a rare sight on the professional tours as electronic scoreboards take their place. This week’s Chiquita Classic at River Run Country Club is one of few that still feature a handwritten board.
Calligrapher Rick Wild is the Web.com Tour scorekeeper responsible for filling out the handwritten scoreboard at River Run. He says digital scoreboards can’t match the artistry of the handwritten board, or its ability to present information at a glance. Read the full story

Our Towns Habitat for Humanity has purchased an abandoned house at 510 Cardinal Court and intends to renovate it as part of its Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.
The house stood abandoned since former resident Ronnie White moved out roughly a year and a half ago, leading to complaints from neighbors. Habitat expects volunteers to begin work soon on cleaning and refurbishing the house to prepare it for a new resident. Read the full story

HUNTERSVILLE – Huntersville police have charged a 22-year-old Huntersville driver with felony death by motor vehicle following a rollover crash early Saturday on McCoy road that killed his passenger.
Evan Purtill, 22, of Huntersville, was charged Thursday after police completed their investigation into the 2am Saturday wreck on McCoy Road, between Hambright and Beatties Ford roads. Huntersville firefighters, police and MEDIC 911 were called to the scene just after 2am, where they found a vehicle on its side after rolling over. Read the full story

CHARLOTTE – Citizens crowded the meeting chamber at Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center Tuesday for a public hearing on proposals to ban smoking on government property and outlaw tobacco in public parks. While the majority of speakers supported the ordinance, some considered it unduly restrictive.
Tuesday’s meeting was the second public forum on the smoking ban in preparation county commissioners’ vote on the new rules later this month. Read the full story
