What a Saturday it’s going to be in downtown Davidson.

The Run for Green half-marathon, Davidson Farmer’s Market, Yoga on the Green and a downtown art crawl will make Main Street the place to be. It’s also Homecoming Weekend at Davidson College, and all the local hangouts will be buzzing with music, shopping, and food … to mention community.

Kristen Feighery of Sanctuary Gallery, the organizer of Saturday night’s gallery crawl, is excited at the lineup this weekend. “There’s something for people to do from early in the morning to 11 o’clock at night,” she said. Read the full story

MI-Connection Communications System customers lost cable, internet and telephone services briefly on Wednesday afternoon after the power went out at the company’s Davidson hub, which serves the Cornelius and Davidson. Read the full story

Davidson Police responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a collision with a utility pole and made an arrest for simple assault and communicating threats. Davidson Campus Police referred five students to the Dean following an incident early Sunday morning at the Armfield Dormitory. About 150 sailors are expected on Lake Norman this weekend for the 2nd Special Olympics Sailing Regatta, hosted by Lake Norman Yacht Club. CHARLOTTE – The nation’s largest power company will also be one of the largest solar providers. Duke Energy wrapped up six months of shopping for solar projects Monday, and announced it will increase its North Carolina capacity by more than a third. Despite the increase, solar remains a tiny fraction of overall generation.

• Monday’s announcement said the company was making a $500 million commitment to solar in the state, purchasing three facilities and buying power from others. See the full announcement below.
