Davidson College has adopted new measures to protect students involved in sexual misconduct cases and a task force still reviewing college policy will hold community forums beginning this week to gather input on further changes. The policy changes come at a time when the issue of college rape is in the public eye nationwide and at Davidson, where campus police are investigating two reported sexual assaults in the past two weeks.

Davidson commissioners will hold the next in their ongoing series of  Community Chats at Davidson Presbyterian Church on Tuesday.  The town also is opening up a lottery for spaces on town-maintained canoe and kayak racks on Lake Davidson and Lake Cornelius. There’s a new exhibit in the gallery at Town Hall, a NASA scientist turned painter who lives at the Pines. Contracts for the construction of toll lanes along I-77 between Exit 11 in Charlotte and Exit 36 in Mooresville have been signed, but strong opposition remains and there’s talk of a lawsuit being filed to stop the project.

The group raising money to file a lawsuit, Widen I-77, points to problems with another toll road in Indiana. The company that runs that road filed for bankruptcy this week. That company is also part of the same corporation that’s building the toll lanes on I-77.
